The Mares All In One dSMB is the perfect starter SMB for the travelling diver.  Both the buoy and finger spool roll up and pack away into a small pouch that you can keep in a pocket or clipped onto a D-Ring.

dSMBs are not only great for getting you seen in the water but they are required by many dive boats for every diver.  Underwater attach the end of the line to the dSMB and inflate it either orally or with a standard BCD inflator.  Reel it back in as you ascend and your boat will be waiting while other boats stay away.

  • 180 cm height
  • 5 cm/2” solas reflective tape
  • Extremely lightweight
  • “Diver Below” reflective writing
  • Integrated mesh pocket for spool
  • 20 m/66 ft spool included
  • Stainless steel D-ring
  • Double ender stainless steel boltsnap
  • Oral inflate connector for LP BCD hose
  • Over pressure release valve
  • Velcro closure system

Mares All In One dSMB - Features

FeatureProduct Specification
Bottom
?
dSMBs are usually either Closed Cells, Fluted or Open bottomed. Closed Cell buoys are sealed all the way round and can only be inflated orally or with a LPI. Closed cell buoys can only deflate when you pull on the dump valve so they stay inflated. Fluted buoys have an open bottom with a bottle-neck valve that closes itself when the buoy is fully inflated. The open bottom means that you can inflate with an octo or exhaust from your primary but if they don't fully inflate there is a chance that some gas can leak out if you don't keep the line taught. Open bottom buoys just have an open end, usually with weighted panels. Air is free to flow in and out so keep a tight line so the buoy doesn't tip over and empty.Close
Fluted
Buoy Type
?
Surface marker buoys come in a variety of types for different uses. SMBs are location marker buoys that are inflated at the beginning of a dive and either towed behind a diver or tied off to an anchor point to let boats in the area know that there is a diver nearby. dSMBs are Delayed Surface Marker Buoys that you take with you on a dive deflated. when you are about to ascend you tie it onto a reel or spool and inflate so it shoots to the surface while you hold onto the reel. Many dive sites and boats require divers to have a dSMB on them on all dives for safety. Lift Bags are specially designed buoys that can be tied onto an object and inflated to lift it to the surface for recovery. Lift Bags are usually high volume buoys and will have a buoyancy rating based on their volume so you choose the right size buoy based on what you are trying to lift.Close

Length (cm)

The overall length of the SMB when inflated so you have a better idea of how tall it will stand out of the water. Close

LPI Inflation
?
Most dSMBs come fitted with a Low Pressure Inflation nozzle, similar to the fitting on your BCD or Drysuit. Simply push the quick disconnect hose from your BCD or Drysuit onto the fitting and the spring loaded mechanism will inflate the dSMB very quickly. The BCD hose does not attach to the dSMB so when it is full it just slides off. Some divers also use these valves to orally inflate the dSMB so their buoyancy doesn't change and they don't have to disconnect and reconnect any hoses in the water.Close
Yes
Message Pouch
?
At the top of some dSMBs you will find a clear pouch that you can roll up messages inside to communicate with the surface and send messages so they can prepare equipment or send help without you needing to surface. These clear pouches can also be used to fit glow sticks or other lights so you can be better seen in dark environments.Close
No
Oral Inflation
?
Similar to the LPI Inflation, some dSMBs can be inflated by blowing into them but these valves have dedicated fittings that are more comfortable and have lighter spring valves to blow against. These cannot however be inflated with a LPI hose.Close
No
Reflector
?
At the top of SMBs you can often find reflective tape like SOLAS that makes the SMB easier to spot on the surface.Close
Yes
Seams
?
dSMBs are either Single or Double seamed. Single seamed are a single piece of material folded over and stiched down one side but repetetive use can wear the folded section of material. Double seamed are made from a pair of sections welded and stitched all the way round the edges.Close

Compact and easy to use

Great little SMB. Very compact to carry around. Only very slight minor points which is why I didn't give it 5 stars is that the reel is very fiddly to get out of the pouch and would be impossible if you are wearing gloves. And, folding the SMB up after use could be made a bit easier.

Great dSMB

Liked this SMB as spool and buoy are very compact when not in use, my daughter bought one previously, and likes hers too. Really like the clear writing on the buoy.

Great compact all-in-one

Love the multiple ways this can be inflated. It's compact overall. Elasticated pouch is a bit tricky to get the reel out of underwater (especially with gloves) but usually keep reel outside and then use pouch for storage between dives. Very happy with this.
