?Some knives can be mounted to special Grommets built into BCDs.Close
?Some knives can be mounted to a 2" strap on your BCD.Close
|Blade Length (mm)|
?The length of the cutting edge of the knife, longer cutting edges are better for cutting through thicker obstacles but are more cumbersome.Close
?The material the blade is made from. Most dive knives are made from either marine grade steel, titanium or ceramic. Titanium and ceramic can't rust but steel is cheaper but all steels will rust if they come into contact with water and aren't cleaned properly.Close
?Some knives can be mounted to a standard size hose with a looped section of the sheath.Close
?Some knives can be mounted to your arm or leg with supplied straps.Close
?Some knife blades include a specially designed notch for cutting most forms of line or thin rope. Line is much easier to cut in a controlled manner when using the notch instead of slicing the line or rope using the sharpened edge of the blade.Close
|Overall Length (mm)|
?The overal length of the knife, cutter or shears. This length is measured with the sheath in place.Close
?A serrated edge makes it easier to cut through some materials, acting more like a saw than a straight blade.Close
?Sheaths are typcially made from either plastic or webbing. Plastic housings offer impact protection and will incorporate a locking mechanism to help prevent accidental lose of the knife. Webbing sheaths are normally supplied with smaller, low profile back-up knifes and cutter and usually use a velcro tab to retain the knife or cutter.Close
?Standard knife blades are usually available with either a point or blunt tip. A pointed tip holds more a risk of accidental punction of other equipment or injury. A blunt tip reduces the risk of accident damage and is also handy as a lever if you need to pry something open.Close
?The style of the cutting device, ranging from simple line cutters to shears, folding blades and fixed blade knives.Close
