The Apeks XTX 50 and XTX 40 Octopus regulator package is an excellent set for divers who need ultra reliability and performance in even the coldest of conditions.

The DST first stage uses a high performance diaphragm design with the additional benefits of an environmental seal for cold water protection. The DST is fitted with a swivelling low pressure turret that houses four low pressure ports. Two high pressure ports can also be found on the main body of the first stage.

The XTX 50 is supplied with a flexible braided hose for improved safety and prolonged hose life. The second stage features diver adjustable inhalation and venturi controls to modify the performance and safety characteristics of the valve. An interchangeable exhaust cover gives the diver the choice between a wide cover designed to deflect the exhaled gas away from the face or a much more compact cover for reduced drag and weight. The housing is also reversible which allows a technician to swap the hose handing from right to left if required.

The XTX 40 is supplied with a longer yellow braided hose and high visibility trim and from cover. The octopus uses the same internal mechanism and provides the same level of performance as the XTX 50 but lacks the external inhalation adjustment and the additional interchangeable exhaust cover (compact cover fitted as standard). The housing is reversible as per the XTX 50.

Apeks XTX50 Plus XTX40 Regulator Set - Features

FeatureProduct Specification
Adjustable Inhalation
?This feature allows the diver to adjust the inhalation setting from the set level and increase the effort required to open the 2nd stage valve to deliver air.
Yes
Adjustable Venturi
?The venturi control affects how air flows in the 2nd stage. In it's positive position the flow of gas creates a vacuum against the diapragm, helping to open the valve. In it's negative position it will divert gas back against the diaphragm helping to close the valve. It is basically used to help prevent free flowing.
Yes
Cold Water Rated
?Cold water has adverse effects on regulators and can cause some to freeze so each regulator combination must be tested during manufacturing for their performance in different water temperatures.

Cold water is defined by EN250 as below 10°C. If a regulator combination cannot meet the performance standards below 10°C then they are only suitable for warm waters.

EN250 / (EN250A >10°C)
To pass the regulator must provide at least 62.5 L/min of air at 50M depth above 10°C.
Cold & Warm Water
Environmentally sealed
?Environmentally sealed 1st stages offer greater protection against freezing when diving in cold water (below 10 degrees C)

Scubapro have a new method of cold water proofing their first stages called the eXtended Thermal Insulating System or XTIS which still allows water into the first stage but the internal parts that come into contact with the water are coated to prevent ice from forming.
Yes
First Stage
?Unbalanced regulators are affected by the pressure in the cylinder, becoming slighty harder to breathe from when the pressure starts to drop.

Balanced regulators are not affected by the cylinder pressure or depth.

Over-balanced regulators achieve unprecedented performance by increasing your air supply the deeper you go providing the best breathe for deep divers.
Over-balanced
High Pressure Ports
?High pressure ports supply the pressure gauge and wireless transmitters for dive computers
2
Low Pressure Ports
?Low pressure ports supply the 2nd stages and inflator hoses

Service Information
?All regulators need to be serviced to keep them in working order as the parts inside them age and wear over time and with use. Most regulators need to be serviced once a year or after 100 dives with normal recreational use to replace parts and re-balance.

Some regulators use more modern materials or mechanisms that allow them to extend the servicing interval that can save you some money in the long run.
1 Year - 100 Dives
TypeDiaphragm
Weight in Grams (approx)
?The weight includes the first stage (DIN fitting), hose and second stage.

First time regs

As a new diver this was my first own set. Bought with intention to last so the 2HP ports are essential. Felt extremely comfortable in my mouth, easy to set up. The hosing is well made and I got the impression the regs were bullet proof. Used for the first time at the weekend with no issues and I felt completely at ease. Obviously I only have experience with club regs, but as a starting out piece of kit I was very happy.

Great set of Regs

I think these are an amazing set of regulators compared to some of the more expensive brands that are about the same price for just the first and second stage alone without the Octo! The mouthpiece is really comfortable compared to other regulators I have used, and having the interchangeable exhausts was really handy because I don't like the bubbles getting in my face. I love that the first stage swivels as this, alongside the flexible braided hose, stops my head movement being restricted. I like to have as much freedom to move as possible when diving. The breathing is very easy and all in all, these are just some very sturdy regs! The only reason I rate 4 stars instead of 5 is that after only 11 dives, the O-ring blew on my first stage, I wasn't sure if this was a fault with the regs or how they were put together, but a simple replacement and good tightening has solved this problem easily. These things happen! Cannot flaw the regs otherwise :-D
