Snorkels are a simple but essential tool for both snorkeling and scuba diving so you can see into the water and breathe at the same time. There are two main types of snorkel but they all stem from the same design and concept. The most simple snorkel is a fixed tub with a U-bend and mouthpiece, these are often preferred by freedivers for their simplicity. Modern snorkels have one-way valves at the bottom and sometimes the top of the snorkel to keep water from getting inside your snorkel and if any does it is pushed out of the bottom easily so the water doesn't get in your mouth.
