Like most divers I’m fascinated by the pioneers and explorers of the diving world and all of the equipment and techniques that have lead to modern diving today. Thanks to the VisitEngland Tourism Superstar awards you now have a chance to elevate the awareness of diving equipment and practices by supporting the Historical Diving Society and the British Diving Museum. In 1990 the Historical Diving Society, HDS, was formed to preserve and educate the knowledge of equipment and diving practices through the ages and later in 2011 The Diving Museum was created in Gosport, Hampshire in a Victorian age Battery which is now filled with exhibits with equipment from all corners of the globe focusing on how we arrived at where we are now.
Right now the Museum has been nominated for VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar of 2016 and they need your votes to win. Your votes can help put The Diving Museum and Historical Diving Society on the map to encourage more people to take up diving and learn more about it’s history. It costs nothing and takes seconds; all you need to do is visit the Mirror Newspaper’s website by clicking here, scroll to the bottom, nominate Dr John Bevan and click submit form.
John Bevan has been one of the driving forces to have The Diving Museum in the shortlist and now needs your help to win. Dr Bevan has worked in the underwater industry since the late 60’s and has worked on deep diving research with the Royal Navy before starting his own underwater engineering business in the 70’s. Today he is the chairman of the Historical Diving Society and works to educate and preserve the old ways of diving. Voting closes at midnight February 28th and the winner will be announced March 5th. We don’t have long so please vote to introduce more people to the underwater world.
