Vanuato To Host Diving Festival March 7, 2011 by lukesheppard
People looking for an adventure holiday can take part in a unique diving festival in the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu later this year. Scheduled to be held from October 20 to 26, the event is being billed as the “World’s Greatest Shore Dive Festival”. It will be hosted by Espiritu Santo, which is the biggest of Vanuatu’s 83 islands and boasts, among its major attractions, a US liner that went down off its coast during World War II. The diving festival is the brainchild of British national Peter Cooper. The 52-year-old from Darlington first experienced the thrill of diving to explore the wreckage of SS President Coolidge during a holiday in 2008. Tourism official in Vanuatu and the island’s residents are hoping to promote the festival among tourists internationally. Airline Quantas has joined the campaign as an official partner. Aside from diving, visitors to the country can enjoy a host of other adventure activities including trekking, kayaking and fishing.
