We regularly hear of new scuba and apnea diving record attempts but its well known that the Guinness World Records holds more than its fair share of wackier records like the ‘Loudest Purr by a Cat’. So what other diving related records are in there? Well here’s some for you:
Fastest 100m hurdles wearing swim fins The female record is held by Veronica Torr with a time of 18.523 seconds. This video shows Veronica beating a previous time. Nice technique!
Deepest cycling underwater The deepest cycling underwater happened at 66.5m and was achieved by Vittorio Innocente – Sorry about the music!
Largest scuba diving lesson The largest scuba diving lesson was attended was recorded at Malalayang beach, Manado, Indonesia with the help of 2,465 people.
Largest press conference underwater Eric J Pittman held the largest underwater press conference involving 61 journalists. The conference, which was held at 10m, was to promote the release of his new book.
Largest underwater painting Alexander Belazor painted the largest underwater painting measuring 0.8m² at El Mina in the Red Sea. Its not my idea of art to be honest but whatever floats your boat.
Most people cycling underwater Guernsey hosted the largest underwater cycle race involving 22 scuba divers competing along the the 60-m (196-ft) long, 3-m ( 10-ft) deep 2e2 Underwater Cycling Challenge.
Largest wedding underwater Mares organised the largest underwater wedding with 261 diving guests who took part at the marriage ceremony between Francesca Colombi and Giampiero Giannoccaro on the Morcone beach at Capoliveri, Italy. Check out the header image.
Most couples married underwater simultaneously On 14 February 2001 (Valentine’s Day), 34 couples from 22 countries simultaneously exchanged wedding vows 10 metres (32.8 ft) underwater near Kradan Island, Southern Thailand. This was organised by Trang Chamber of Commerce and Thai Airways International.
Most haircuts underwater in one hour The most haircuts given underwater in one hour is 27 and was achieved by David Rae at the London School of Diving, on 12 November 2007.
Most people extreme ironing underwater The most people extreme ironing underwater is 173 and was achieved by de Waterman Diving Club in Oss, Netherlands, on 28 March 2011. This video is of the British record back in 2009.
Most people playing checkers underwater Estonia holds the record for the most people playing checkers underwater is 52 at an event organised by Martti Raavel and Diver Inside Estonia at Valtu Sportshouse in Kaerepere, Estonia.
Farthest distance jumped underwater on pogo stick The farthest distance jumped underwater on a pogo is 512.06 m (1,680 ft) set by Ashrita Furman at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, New York back in 2007.
