Suunto Release Safety Notice Regarding High Pressure Rubber Hoses

  On 22nd August, 2013 Suunto Oy issued an important safety notice regarding high pressure rubber hoses. This global notice involves a limited batch of the high pressure rubber hoses used with Suunto air integrated dive computers, dive computer combos and analogue combos. A limited batch of the high pressure rubber hoses has been identified to have potentially defective hose material which may impact the durability of the hose. This defect may cause the high pressure rubber hose to leak or rupture leading to loss of breathing gas at higher than anticipated rate which may result in severe injury or death. Diver safety is of highest importance to Suunto. Therefore, Suunto announces a limited quantity safety recall of high pressure rubber hoses as identified below. Identification of the affected high pressure rubber hoses:
  • Black rubber outer covering on hose
  • Marked with text 5000 PSIG PRESSURE TESTED - MADE IN USA
  • Hose diameter approximately 12,5 mm (1/2 inch) and length approximately 84 cm (33 inch)
  • Manufacturing batch code 1812 printed only
  NOTE: Miflex hoses are not affected and only rubber hoses stamped 1812 need to be returned. Suunto estimates to have shipped maximum quantity of 2,500 affected hoses globally, between 11/2012 - 07/2013. However it must be noted that as they switched to a braided HP hose early on in this period they are expecting a very limited numbers of hoses to be in circulation in the UK & Ireland. To date, there have been no known injuries related to this issue.
