On the 6th of July 2017 Suunto announced a product recall on their Wireless Air Transmitters and Wireless Tank PODs.
From the information that we have received from Suunto there have been two reported cases where “the exterior case of a Suunto Wireless Tank Pressure Transmitter has failed during regular dry land pressure testing. Although extremely rare, this represents a potential risk of injury, due to the risk of bursting.“
While this represents a small fraction of a percent of the units being used around the world, Suunto are erring on the side of caution to recall all units in the view of diver safety. Suunto would like to note: “No serious injuries have occurred in connection with the incidents known to Suunto. However, it is mandatory that all affected products are recalled for inspection and upgrade.“

All Wireless Air Transmitters and Tank PODs bought between 2003 and 06/July/2017 need to be returned to a Suunto Dealer or Suunto directly.
Below is the identifying features of each item included in the recall supplied by Suunto:
After 06/July/2017 all new Wireless Air Transmitters and Tank PODs will come with the upgrade from official Suunto Dealers and will be marked by a laser etched O on the housing. If you bought your transmitter after 06/July/2017 from an official Suunto Dealer and your Transmitter has a laser etched O on the black housing then you don’t need to return your transmitter, it already has the upgrade and is not included in the recall.
If your Transmitter is affected then do not use your Transmitter or POD and take only it to your nearest Suunto Dealer who can walk you through the process, they do not need your regulators or computer to be returned with the transmitter.
Here at Simply Scuba we will be contacting all of our affected customers to the best of our ability and will inform you on the process and how to get your transmitter back to us and upgraded.
There is also a free of charge collection option provided by Suunto in certain areas by completing a Online Service Request, all you need to do is print of the shipping label and package your Transmitter for collection.
To speed up the process and keep track of all transmitters we do ask that all transmitters are returned with this Customer Contact Information form filled out with your details.
