18 Meter Whale Washes Up On Pegwell Bay March 3, 2011 by lukesheppard
A dead 18 meter sperm whale has washed up on Pegwell Beach near Ramsgate. The giant whale is thought to have arrived with the tide earlier this morning. The Police, the coastguard and the local council are currently assessing the problem but they are having to wait for the tide to go back out later this afternoon before they can do anything with the animal. There is currently some speculation about the National History Museum collecting the animal and perhaps preserving its body parts – after all, its not everyday an intact sperm whale washes up on shore. Members of the public are being advised to stay clear of the whale to avoid any threat of disease. Image courtesy of the Maritime and Coastguard agency
