this is a great product and being a recreational/amateur diver this is the perfect product for me pro or not. i have done research and also found simply Scuba do better prices on this than anyone else!so do not think twice to buy quality diving equipment from simply scuba! oh and being only 15 this product was not hard to master! thankyou simply scuba!!!

Overall very happy with this, my first dive computer. Easy to read, shows all the important information as required for recreational diving. Only fault I can find is that when I tried to pop out the screen protector one of the insert tabs snapped, but Simply Scuba sent out a replacement no hassle.

I bought a Suunto Vyper for myself last year to replace my previous computer which I lost!!. Very pleased with its performance - good screen and easy to use. I have now purchased a second one for my 'better half' who needed a replacement computer.

Firstly... Read the manual and you cannot go wrong. Pros: An extremely rugged and well built dive computer. All necessary information is displayed at all times and very easy to read. Conservative to very conservative dive planning. Illumination provides good visibility at depth. Great battery life. Easily programmed. Download Dive profiles to computer. Cons: Buttons can be very stiff when first purchased. Logbook could be clearer. Data transfer cable is a little expensive.

My Vyper was one of the first scuba items I got (it was actually a gift, but I specified which one I wanted) after qualifying as an OW diver. If I'm honest, at the time I wasn't entirely sure what I was getting it for, but everyone said I'd need one. They were right. Sure you SHOULD plan dives, but a computer allows for changes in circumstances, constantly monitors depth and provides warnings. Add in the automatic start to deal with you forgetting to start a watch when diving and features like safety stop timers, decompression stops, nitrox compatibility and a big, clear display that even my ailing reading eyesight can cope with and you've got a surefire winner in the Vyper. For a recreational diver, the Vyper does pretty much all you could need and costs little more than a middling dive watch. Having now completed some more complex dives at greater depths, I can't imagine diving without my Vyper!

Previously had the Mares Nemo sport which was easy to use and never gave me hassles. The only reason for changing was the length of the strap. As I normally dive with at least a 5mm suit the computer would be secured on the second to last or last hole with the strap sticking out waiting to snag and drop. The Vyper had more than enough strap length even to the point where I might shorten it. In comparison to the Nemo I have found it easier to operate (esp with gloves), it feels more sturdy and it is easier to read although the menu is harder to navigate but this should get easier in time. The nemo has the pro that you could use it as your daily time piece if your lifestyle permits this which will safe you a few bucks to spend on a regulator etc. The delivery was fast, efficient and they followed my instructions to drop it at the back of the house to a T. Hope this help!

Excellent in the water during dives and between dives. The one problem I have had with it is going back through the dive log. This could be a lot simpler, as it is on some other dive computers.

Ive had my Suunto Vyper for about 6-8 years when i bought all my scuba kit and ive only just had to put a new battery in it. Its got everything i need to know when diving and the functions are easy to use in and out of the water. i would recomend it to any one who dives

Nice clear display even without the backlight on

Nice clear display even without the backlight on. Personally, I want as big a display as possible for my dive computer and this strikes a great balance between being big and not been obtrusive. Perhaps not the most intuitive interface, but once you get the hang of it it's easy enough to use. Buttons are big enough to use with gloves on too. As everyone says, you can't go too far wrong with a Suunto and the Vyper will probably be all I ever need as a recreational diver.

This is the first computer that I have purchased. For me it does everything that I need it to do. The only thing I would say is that the display in the picture is not as bright with the light on but, it does really help with visability. I have been using it out in Malta and the light really does help, especialy when doing wreck pentration and cavern explorations.

The service by Simply Scuba is top notch

The service by Simply Scuba is top notch. I purchased the dive computer on a Monday and got an email saying it would be delivered on Wednesday, the email also specified what time it would arrive which means that you don't have to stay in the house all day. It arrived bang on time, so considering I didn't pay for the delivery this was great. The watch is good. I have used it for 2 dives now, still getting used to it, but it is easy to use and has all the functionality I require.

This is my first diving computer

This is my first diving computer, so I'm not really in a position to offer a very informative review. Still, it was robust, accurate and easy to use - what more can you require? My only criticism is that the backlight is neither as bright or as lurid as the picture suggests - it's a washed-out greeny colour that can only be seen when it's very dark. Then again, if it's that dark, you'll be using a torch anyway, won't you?

I'm a pretty new diver and now that I've finished my training I was looking for something to help me keep track down under and stay safe. To be honest I already new this was a great model - one of my club instructors swears by it and, having had the chance to try it myself, I found it to be simple to use but packed full of features that I'm not even going to need to use for a while yet. The playback function is an excellent way of viewing the last few dives for learning/debriefing purposes and the advanced planning functions are really helpful. The nitrogen uptake model seems to have fairly safe margins and it even keeps a timer for how long you should avoid flying after your last dive. Unless you are looking for really advanced features to manage complex dives this is an excellent all-round computer and this site has it for a great price.

Bought the Vyper for its apparantly easy interface and was not dissapointed. Spent one evening with the manual and running through its simulation feature and was confident with it. Took it the next day for a couple of dives and it worked great. The PC interface was not working when I got it but after contacting Suunto UK direct they did an exchange within a week. Good computer and good backup service.

Perfect, does everything you could possibly need air or nitrox, so simple a chimp could use it and return to the surface safely. The only down, is its size; a bit to big to show it off day to day in the office!

I bought a vyper just before going to red sea and it is incredibly easy to use and is ideal for most recreational diving, I like the dive log functions the most especially when multi-dive, multi-day diving. It has really easy to set functions and warning alarms and I found remembering and doing safety stops much easier. All round a fantastic computer, and my only moan is it is a bit big on very small wrists!

Having just given up my ancient but much loved Aladin Sport and moved to a Suunto Vyper I really can't find anything to fault with it. I have just done a week's liveaboard trip with repetitive dives and it did everything I asked of it.

I bought this as my first dive computer, and I must admit you cannot go wrong. It is easy to use and the guide is written in plain English. I like to just wreck dive, nothing fancy, and this computer suits me to the ground, it i need to dive Nitrox I can, but I prefer air anyway. This is an excellant first computer, and I won't be upgrading unless I really need to. One tip is buy the USB or serial PC upgrade, no more trying to remember your dives, three weeks ago, it will all be stored for you, plus you can bookmark points of interest during the dive. Brilliant!

Clear to read

Clear to read, easy to adjust and reliable. A couple of other people here in Madang were also upgrading comps at the same time and the Vyper is by far and away the best. The only weakness is the Dive Manager - the serial (COM) connector doesn't work on my laptop. Go for a USB instead, is my advice. Simply Scuba is by far and away the best dive shop, by the way.

Am sure the more expensive computers do great things, but can't ever see me needing more than the Vyper personally. Great all rounder, does Air and Nitrox, and can be downloaded to a PC (main reason I went for this, rather than the slightly 'lesser' models). Might be nicer if it where a little smaller and had the add on option for cylinder preasure feedback, but then it's only £200, which is pretty fair!
