I read the reviews after I bought this peice of...

I read the reviews after I bought this peice of kit and was surprised at the mixed bag of comments. I used this on my Drift Dive Speciality, as did the DM & Instructor. I found the reel relativey easy to use, having practised with it before. Like most items you need to be familar with the operation before hitting the water. I adjusted the rachet until I had it where it wanted it. I am not sure what the breaking strain is on the line but you would need to submit it to some serious abuse, not likely with a DSMB filled to 30 - 50%. Plastic parts tend to be weaker but do save weight. Overall, I am satisfied with the product.

looks like a great reel right

looks like a great reel right? unfortunately the performance doesn't quite live up to that image or the price tag. easy to use trigger yes, but line can easily become tangled inside the racheting system, taking quite a while to sort out. not something i'd want to have to do underwater and fortunately i wasn't at the time. line also snapped the first time i used it, so not overly impressed with the performance of this expensive item. plastic bit's have a nasty habit of becoming detached too! will stay in my BCD pocket as a back up, and a reminder that pricey is not always the best way to go, and will revert to using a mcmahon reel!

This has got to be the worst dive reel on the market, as a previous writer said 'AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE' dangerous, cumberson piece of kit please don't waste your money like I did. Scubapro should be ashamed, this does their reputation no good what so ever, terrible design + poor quality parts wear very quickly rubbish when new useless when slightly used. Spend a bit more or pay a lot less and get a McMahon ) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

This reel is fantastic and is easy to use

This reel is fantastic and is easy to use . Yes it takes a couple of minutes to get used to how it locks and the friction settings but it's well worth the effort. My bro just passed is OW last month and also found it very easy to use. I've used the local school's reels which are 2/3rds of the price of this reel but I'm glad I spent the extra money.

Nice reel but let down by the ratcheting mechanism

Nice reel but let down by the ratcheting mechanism, as after 6 months use due to wear (plastic parts) it now slips allowing the line out again when on safety stops. So after a short period of use allready failing!

The performance of this reel is not very good

The performance of this reel is not very good. It is difficult to use and after a few dives, despite cleaning seizes up. It is expensive and not very practical, I would consider something else.

Have the rest of the people who reviewed this ever...

Have the rest of the people who reviewed this ever dived with it? This is quite simply the worst piece of dive equipment i have ever come across - avoid like the plague!!! Sturdy it may be but the folks at scubapro must have designed the locking mechanism at the pub. In order to release the line the metal middle section of the handle needs to be pushed through the plastic outer grip and held with a pin that never goes in. The pin also comes out very reluctantly when you want to put the lock back on. And its overpriced. If you just want to let up an SMB get a spool, else buy something that works.
