Remarkably powerful torch for something so manageable

Remarkably powerful torch for something so manageable. Even in clearish, fairly well lit seas you could see the beam extend out well ahead of us and it illuminated under rocks and into crevisies really well. The beam is quite narrow, which I think is a plus. Not 100% sure the twist on/off is a great idea, but turn on and leave on and you'll be ok. The use of C Cell batteries is good as you can get them everywhere and stock up online for a low price. Looks and feels like a quality item and the provided lanyard looks a bit thin to rely on (I bought a thicker one before I used it and carried it in my BCD pocket, hooked up to a D ring) - I was a bit unsure about spend £70 on a torch, but having dived with it, it seems a good investment.

did my first ever night dive and it was brilliant you can definitely use it as a main light and back up light well built and easy to use !

I wanted a dive torch

I wanted a dive torch, but I didn't want a cheap one and buy twice. I'd seen the 230 in a dive shop and the other reviews were very positive, so I bought one when Simply Scuba had a deal on. The torch is pretty bright (I have nothing to compare it with though, except household torches which it trounces) and feels very solidly made. I've yet to use it in the water, but I can echo some of the concerns of others in that the provided lanyard looks pretty flimsy and the screw on/off action would mean that you might want to enter the water with it on and leave it that way until you get out to avoid the risk of flooding (however remote that would be in reality). Simply's service was a good as ever and the torch looks and feels good value, but I'll have to reserve ultimate judgement until I get a chance to dive with it.

A great torch

A great torch. I recently used this on a wreck dive and it was great for peeking inside the nooks and crannies which were too small to enter. A powerful beam which travels quite far, also works great as a pointer to attract your buddies attention, just make sure not to shine it in anyone's eyes. Definitely a good buy for an occassional wreck diver.

Good torch

Good torch. Powerful beam and sturdy case etc.. metal so doesnt break when someone puts a tank on it! Only issue this far, having owned it 6 months is the rubber grip at the top spins when turning on/ off sometimes. screw function, so no switches to corrode up. the included coil lanyard, mmm took mine off as torch too heavy for it. Would I buy again.... yep. Got one for my mate in malta as well.

Several of us had this torch on a trip to...

Several of us had this torch on a trip to Gozo and it was great. Good quality and noticeably brighter beam than all the other torches of this size in use.

still to use in the water thats next week

still to use in the water thats next week - be sure to put the batteriess in the wrong way - its head first for this torch - you'll see what i mean .... took me 30 mins!

The salesman was so exalted abouth this lamp that I bought it on impulse. I certainly don't regret buying it :) I don't like having a lot of equipment to spoil the dive. Though being small, it has enough power to compare with much larger and more expensive torches. So if your goal is to make dives easier, and not necessary illuminating half the ocean, don't hesitate to buy this torch. I consider this the best spent money I have made on equipment

Excellent light with a narrow powerful beam with a slight...

Excellent light with a narrow powerful beam with a slight halo around the bright spot. This comes with a spiral lanyard which clips to a D ring. Used as my primary light during a 14 meter UK night dive in November. Excellent value for money.

Very bright light

Very bright light, bought as a bck up torch but used on two low visibility North Sea dives. Very good value for the price

I've just got the torch out of the box & the first thing that comes to the fore is the quality engineering it look's & feels excellent, after inserting the 3 C cells ( taking note of the picture on the back of the instruction booklet. ) & screwing the lens head back on until it lit I was very pleased with the light output, the center of the beam is incredibly bright & is surrounded with a halo of dimmer light which between them should make it a joy to use in a variety of situations. So far I would give it 9 out of 10, I'm hanging on to the other one point until I've tried it underwater but to be honest from what I have already seen it will be more than up to the job. I'm really looking forward to trying it out on my next dive.
