Poseidon BeSea W50 Stab Jacket - Advanced Harness with Single Bladder

£504.00

The BeSEa W50 from Poseidon is a sport-wing designed to perform well for both beginners and more experienced divers. Equipped with ClamRetract™ it gives a great volume increase as well as superior bladder deflation capabilities. In fact, deflated, the W50 has the smallest size (drag) of all bladder models within the BeSea range. Four dump valves and an inflator with a stainless steel mechanism ensures inflation and deflation is always controlled and safe. Furthermore, the shape of the bladder compensates for the weight of the tank when submerged and helps give you total freedom to move in any direction. The narrow air passage behind the neck is designed not to restrict head movement or foul regulators and hoses when inflated. The BeSea W50 is made for equipment with a negative weight in water that does not exceed 19 kg (41,6 lbs) and has a lifting capacity of 225 N. A double, non-flex tank-band tank attachment system is delivered with the BeSea W50 which can also be equipped with integrated weight pockets, accessory pockets, metal back plate, Q.M.R.-system™, Pinbolt kit and D-rings.

A really nice BCD

A really nice BCD. Great trim in the water, sturdy construction and fantastic quality. Having read a couple reviews of the BCD, I was lead to believe that putting it together would be a complex task requiring years of training, plenty of skill, a couple tantrums and several beers. This is not the case - it is simple to put together and the beer was completely optional.

I

I've been using this for a while now and have found it to be excellent. It takes a bit of playing around to get it set up correctly but once done it's very comfortable. Everything is high quality and after about 50 dives there's no signs of wear. Just make sure you check all the bolts are tight every now and then (especially the back adjustment screw) as they do loosen over time. The integrated weight system has been fine when diving abroad with limited weight. I've found the best method in terms of balance to be to put some weight on the cambands. That said most of my dives so far have been abroad with aluminium cylinders. I think when I next dive in my drysuit I'll try 6 - 8 kg in the pockets and the rest on the cam bands. Re the accessory pockets, see my separate review. I'd agree with Barry about not competely filling it at the surface - there's no need anyway. I'm not sure about it being under priced but I do feel it to offer good value as it's a quality piece of kit.

The jacket is very comfortable and well thought out

The jacket is very comfortable and well thought out, its good fun to nassemble in kit form but the assembly process helps understanding on how the jacket is designed and how it has a timeless design which can be added to in so many combinations it makes your head spin!! I am a very experianced BSAC diver, I started diving in 1974, and I am now an advanced diver, I am use to the wing configuration, people using this wing for the first time will find that when fully inflated this wing pushes you forward quite noticably face down, unlike normal BCs which support you upright, to overcome this reduce the amount of air in the jacket on the surface to about half inflation, its something you get use to!! the jacket is one of the best I have ever owned or tryed its going to be a great seller,I found it works best with a seperate Weight belt harness rather than a weight belt, I tried a shot weight belt and a normal weight belt none of which worked with it but the weight harness was perfect, the quick dump handles positioned in the correct place just above the waist band, I did not use the integral weight system for the jacket because I found the generous number of ring points on the waist band more usefull for hanging gear, you loose these if you use the integeral weight system also my experiance of wings with integral weights over the past 12 years is that they make the jacket too heavy out of the water. The dump and inflation system is the BEST I HAVE EVER USED!!! the clam retract system is fantastic as indeed is the long but very very usefull, well made hose dump/inflator valve better than any other system on the market, no plastic crap here!! all stainless and heavy!! All in all the jacket dives as good as it looks, a fantastic bit of kit buy one before Poseidon realize the selling partential of the jacket and the price increases to well over £400 as I expect it to by next year, at the moment its well under priced!!!
