Fourth Element Mens Thermocline Explorer

Fourth Element Mens Thermocline Explorer

£134.95 RRP £149.95  save 10%

The material used to produce the Fourth Element Thermocline Explorer is probably the most versatile thermal protection system for use in extreme watersports. Breathable, comfortable and lightweight, the garments are also fast drying with the equivalent thermal performance of 2.5mm neoprene.

Made using Polartec® Aqua Shell® fabric, the garments are also neutrally buoyant and machine washable. The Thermocline system can be used as a lightweight wetsuit for snorkelling, pool training suit or as an effective additional thermal layer underneath a wetsuit or semi dry.

Loss of heat from the body can result in poor decisions, can lead to exhaustion and speed the onset of hypothermia

State of the art breatheable, waterproof, flexible and warm fabric developed by climate control specialists, Polartec® has been used by fourth element to create the Thermocline range, which has been tested in some of the most extreme diving conditions in the world.

The Thermocline is made from Polartec® Aqua Shell® fabric and has a thermal performance equivalent to that of 2.5mm of neoprene whilst being neutrally buoyant. Worn on its own or underneath a wetsuit or drysuit for additional thermal protection, the Fourth Element Thermocline system represents and evolutionary step in diving thermal protection.

The fabric is fleece-lined - it is comfortable and warm against the skin. Four way stretch gives complete freedom of movement. A breathable membrane means that the Thermocline can be worn all day.

Brought this for a diving holiday in the Maldives and wore it for 26 dives in 10 days. Thermal protection was great with no discomfort (water was 29 - 31 degrees). Protection was good and perfect to avoid scratches from rocks and grazes from shifting equipment. I also found the suit easy to put on both dry and wet (significantly easier than my buddies in neoprene). The material dries quickly between dives and the only wet patch was the ankles where water accumulated as the suit was hug up to dry between dives. There is a slight pulling of seam threads from the Velcro on my BCD, but nothing that weakened them. Overall the suit performed exactly as I expected it to on the holiday, so I’m very happy with it for tropical diving.

Bought this firstly as an extra layer under my 5mm for a trip to Tenerife, wore it twice and found I was overheating, so much so that on one particularly strenuous dive I was so uncomfortable I aborted. Having said all that I'm pleased with the quality and fit. I have to agree with others that sizing can be a bit hit and miss I had to change a large to a medium to get a snug fit. I also have the long sleeve top. Taking it to the Southern Red sea soon and intend to try it on it's own. Should be a good test.

very well constructed and also very comfortable

very well constructed and also very comfortable. Feels true to size with generous room around the hip area. I haven't tested its heat keeping properties yet, as its too warm here. But I highly recommend this product along with the long sleeved top.

Offers basic protection for very warm waters

Offers basic protection for very warm waters. A bit of a squeeze to get into but comfy when on. I use it under a 3 mm shorty in cooler waters with a rash vest but it's snug enough to go under my 7/5mm full suit for added warmth. The only downside is that it provides no extra thermal protection for the armpits, a high heat loss area. Buy the long sleeve top aswell!

Really pleased with this for warm water diving

Really pleased with this for warm water diving. Was concerned my girth would not go through the neck entry but after a few wears it was simple to put on even wet on a boat, kept me warm and very flexible to wear. One seam has started to unpick after 16 dives though!
