Horses for courses - I use this reel with a DSMB without difficulty; it's been fine for diving in warm waters where cold fingers and/or gloves are not an issue. And it's very compact so tucks away in a small BCD pocket.

Very poor! ok its small but therefore hard to use with gloves...worst of all the button you need to operate to release the reel can be operated in your dive bag/BCD and then you find the thing has released miles of coil! its useless and Im surprised at AP Valves designing such rubbish!

a small

a small, robust piece of kit. Fits into my stab jacket together with delayed buoy. Not a criticism of the reel, but something to bear in mind; there are instructions on how to remove the spring loaded lock; I did not remove the lock and on first use there was a mild panic as I could not release the lock as the inflated buoy wanted to go 'ballistic' - oops! Something to bear in mind.

this reel is useless. it jams, is too small to operate, difficult to wind. do not buy one!!!

The rating system doesn

The rating system doesn't allow negative numbers. If you ever try and use this as a delayed SMB reel it will simply jam and you will have to say goodbye to the reel and your SMB as they shoot to the surface. (Although this gives you an excuse to buy a decent reel)

This reel is very compact but requires a lot of practice to use safely - it is difficult to hold and is prone to jamming. I would not recommend this reel.

This item is probably the worst I have ever used

This item is probably the worst I have ever used. The line is too lightweight, it floats around as you are unreeling it, making it prone to catching on anything and everything - fins, watch, bcd - you name it. Added to that, the reel is fiddly to use and very slow to release/rewind. I would not recommend at all.

Now be carefull here

Now be carefull here, if you are looking for a primary reel, this is not it. It's difficult to use with thicker gloves on and not ideal to use with a SMB. However if you are looking for a secondary reel to use while wreck diving or as a backup reel then you have found what you are looking for, its very compact with about 40M of line which is more that enough. Build quality is good.

Good bit of kit

Good bit of kit. Used for the first time on a 18mtr drift dive. Bit fiddly to start but with practice it will be ok. Winding up is a bit slow compared to my oversized reel.

This stinks, it does not work well with Delayed SMB, gloves and cold fingers.

No good. Requires alot of practice which is not really what you want in a dsmb reel. Might be ok as jump reel though

Great little bit of kit

Great little bit of kit, very small and compact, easy to use, can easily be used for wreck penetration or SMB use. Very good!

I've not been diving for very long but i have found this item compact for fitting in to my BC, (out of the way ),but that it can be a little difficult to control when you've got cold fingers in thick gloves.
