Info on the UWATEC Aladin 2G Dive Computer

The Aladin 2G is a brand new, wrist mounted dive computer from Uwatec that supersedes the Aladin Tec 2G computer. The new 2G has additional features and designed for technical divers and recreational divers who will appreciate the fine detail and accessible information needed to progress in scuba diving.

Features

  • New Profile Dependent Intermediate Stops to optimise safety. This unique calculation provides an intermediate stop based on how much nitrogen your body has taken up, taking into account your current dive, previous dives and breathing mixes.
  • New Apnea Mode includes faster sampling rates, manual start, current depth, maximum depth, dive time in minutes and seconds, water temperature, ascent and descent speed, Apnea specific alarms and warnings, adjustable water density and an APNEA specific logbook.
  • New modern look round buttons.
  • Predictive Multi Gas allowing the benefits of carrying high oxygen concentration mixes as well as a main breathing gas.
  • Depth Gauge mode to 120m, with stop watch function. A unique, continuously updated average depth that can be reset at any time
  • Active backlight with on off function.
  • Bookmark function mid dive highlights specific parts with the press of a button. Add comments in the SmartTRAK profile later.
  • Altimeter measuring altitude with a 15m resolution.
  • Altitude alarms when approaching an altitude incompatible with saturation status due to a recent dive.
  • Nitrox settings between 21% and 100% in 1% increments
  • Full watch functions and a basic choice of adjustments without the need of a PC.
  • Adjustable ppO2 between 1.0 and 1.6bar

I bought this computer as a backup for my Suunto...

I bought this computer as a backup for my Suunto Vyper in case it flooded after I changed the battery. As it was the Vyper locked itself up after I took it freediving to test the seal. I was thus forced to use this one instead. Configuring it was easy, the only annoying part is that it comes with no manual (OPEN THE BOX... before being on the liveaboard :-) ) or any accessories such as cables or PC software. But, in the end I did not mind at all since the manual can be downloaded, cables are not needed since it can communicate over infrared (purchased a dongle for a tenner) and the SmartTrak software is free. Altogether I'm very happy with the purchase. All the functions might not be very intuitive though and everything is a combination of left/right and long/short press, which takes getting used to. Compared to the Suunto Vyper I miss the graphical dive profile... but I can see it on the computer instead without extortionately priced accessories. Nice!

I

I've dived the aladin computers for 6 years now and the 2G for about 2 years (50 dives) without a single fault and it still has nearly a full battery. Love this computer so much I bought my son one, who also loves it. I seriously think they are massively undersold/over looked.

I was recommended the 2G by a DIR technical diver...

I was recommended the 2G by a DIR technical diver as an alternative to the usual Suunto Vyper. You don't need to be a technical diver to use it. I found it easy to use with a few nice features. I particularly like the fact it displays minutes AND seconds on the safety stop; when you are in Vobster at 7 degrees you want to know exactly how long you have left before it's time for a warming deco-burger! You have to trigger the safety stop manually, which some people don't like, but I prefer. I also like the fact that you can set the back-light to be on permanently, which is great for evening Dives in the UK when your hands are full. It is very quick to change from air to a Nitrox profile, I have seen other divers fiddling with their computers for several minutes. It is definitely worth getting a wristmount with elastic no matter what computer you have. I bought an Aladin Tec 2G a year ago and loved it. It went missing recently, so it was my first choice as a replacement. Now my original has turned up I have decided to keep the new one as a spare! Once again, Simply Scuba had the best price and fast delivery - cheers guys!
