UWATEC Aladin Prime

Aladin Prime

The Aladin PRIME is the NEW Uwatec computer for recreational divers with an array of features that compete with other manufacturers' top end products. This new computer is easy enough to use for anyone who is new to diving but at the same time has the necessary, advanced features to satisfy the more advanced diver.

New hardware functions, such as user changeable batteries and push button operation are combined with a heavy duty, polyurethane wrist strap. As with the higher end Smart computers, the Aladin PRIME also features IrDA (infrared) communication technology for easy downloading to your PC and FREE SmartTRAK software. The 25 hour memory allows you to download your entire week of diving in the Red Sea once you return home, and the 4 second sampling rate gives an extremely accurate dive profile. The IrDa connection speed can be changed between 9kps and 56kps.

The aim of the Aladin PRIME is to make your dives easy so you can enjoy them as much as possible, whether you're diving air or nitrox (up to 50%). It has all the essential dive information that you would expect from an Uwatec (based on the exclusive Buhlmann ZH-L8 ADT algorithm), including a backlight, 99 dive logbook, variable ascent rate, 3 minute safety stop timer and customizable nitrox reset time.

Not only does the Aladin PRIME have all the above computer functions and many more, but it also has all the important watch functions, such as time, date, an alarm and time zones for the traveling diver. With Aladin PRIME you have everything you need and nothing you don't, so when diving, live your emotions to the fullest, safe in the knowledge the Aladin PRIME will do the rest!

Review My wife & I both use this computer. It is excellent for sport diving but suffers from unexpected battery failure. Something to do with it's IRDA. To their credit, Uwatec have always replaced a faulty computer speedily without any hasssle and at no cost. Still anoying to arrive on a diving holiday to find your computer has broken. My wife is now on her 3rd & I'm on my 2nd. 5 computers in 2 years! Poor reliability but excellent customer service. Having said that I've never known one to fail during a dive and still use one.

Review This is a good entry level computer the only 2 negatives for me 1. The buttons are rather small and not very responsive and little fiddly 2. the display is rather small - I have a uwatec dive timer and this can be easily read at a glance even at an angle however this computer really needs to be lined up with your face and scrutinized to be read and I have good eyesite. Still good value for the money - If you have bad eyesight i'd recomend a Suunto ...

Review Only used four times but so far so good. Much easier to drive than the old Aladin Pro - buttons more sue than old contacts. Don't understand complaints about difficult navigation - seems straightforward enough considering the number of functions. And best of all, £40 off old price. Pleased to receive a dedicated manual with the Prime after reading the earlier horror stories about awful joint manual for two different computers - this one clear & easy to follow. Look forward to the next challenge of downloading dive data once the IR interface is back in stock and shipped.

Review I think the Aladin's are great in general. I've used an Aladin Pro for 5 or 6 years and it's just having it's first servicing. I've switched to a Prime and will use the Pro as a back up. The Prime is as easy to use as the Pro but with even better functionality. The things I like? It's still got an easy to read screen but with a more aesthetically pleasing round watch design. Although not recommended, like the Pro their supposed to be able to withstand a bit of a bashing, my Pro certainly did. Can use it for nitrox & easy to switch Nitrox settings. Buttons are easier to use than previous contact points. Easy to navigate the menu especially if you're used to the Aladin format. It shows temperature, time and has a backlight. And last of all I can do away with all the wires when I want to upload my dives to the computer. It's a tough choice choosing a computer and I did look at the Suuntos (Mosquito & Vyper), probably wasn't much in it (although Mosqui had some relaibility issues) but I know what I'm getting with an Aladin so why mess with it. Also like my Pro it doesn't seem to put me into deco as easily as my mate's Vyper (good or bad depending on how you look at it)

Review Had the option of buying a Suunto Vyper or the Aladin Prime, Wish I'd had the Vyper. Prime has some good qualities but can be a real pain at times to navigate the options available. Tried my friends Vyper sometime later and much prefered his Vyper for ease of use.
