Course Outline

  This non diving specific speciality can be completed in a single day, (Independent study required).

During this course you will learn about the Project AWARE program, its purpose and mission, what steps are being taken to protect the aquatic world.

You will discover the importance of the worlds Coral Reefs, both ecologically and to humankind. You will learn about understanding coral classification, how they form, what limits their distribution and how other organisms help maintain the reefs integrity.

You will look at the complex nature of life on the coral reef, how corals grow and reproduce, zonation, how they battle for space and compete with other reef residents and why grazing is so important to the ecology of the reef.

Discover how the worlds reefs are in peril, from both marine and land based activities and climatic changes, the rate of loss of these precious environments. Learn how mankind can help protect these natural wonders, on an international, national and individual basis.

  Most Divers, Snorkelers and environmentally aware people have either already visited or have plans to visit a coral reef. The AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Speciality course provides the knowledge base for proper interaction while touring a reef. Other PADI programs provide the skills practice and practical application of environmentally sound diving and snorkelling techniques. Here are some suggestions that you might consider.
